A Regency Figural Lamp

London, England
Circa 1830
Lewis Brucciani

Inscribed in the back of the plinth is the name of the maker L BRUCCIANI. Lewis Bruccani was one of the premier plaster modelers who immigrated to London during the Regency period. These elegant Classical figures were often part of the appointments of beautiful townhouses and country estates. While this figure held a candle or small oil lamp within a storm shade, this same figure could also hold a candelabra fitting or a colza lamp. Originally this plaster was finished in a bronzed effect but has since been painted to suggest marble. An identical Classical figure in marble is in the Palm Room at Spencer House in London.
