Regency “French” Bedstead

England
Circa 1830

Thomas King’s 1829 Modern Style of Cabinet Work Exemplified was an influential cabinetmaker’s pattern book which was followed by tastemakers in England and America. Plate 98 illustrates a very similar bed that is referred to as a French Bedstead. In the description, King states that the bed ‘is intended to be highly polished’. This bed is appropriately polished to emphasize the beautiful book matched veneers and very high quality construction.
