This particularly large parian figure depicts Ruth of the Old Testament. A marble version was exhibited by William Brodie at the Royal Scottish Academy in 1869. The piece is impressed on the rear of the base: W Brodie RSA / Sc Eding / 1870 and also stamped on the rear of the base: COPYRIGHT RESERVED / COPELAND.
