Parian ~ Prodigal’s Return
England
Circa 1850
Copeland
After the marble sculpture by William Theed, this extraordinary statuary porcelain depicts two embracing figures illustrating the Prodigal Son’s return. The details of the robes, faces, hands, and hair are deftly handled. The narrative is found in Luke 15:11-32. Impressed in the front of the base is: FATHER I HAVE SINNED. On the rear of the base, it reads: THEED Sc / COPELAND.
