Parian ~ Isaac and Rebekah

England
Circa 1850
Wedgwood after William Beattie

This monumental parian figural group depicts Isaac greeting Rebekah. The rich details evoke the interests of the era in ancient civilizations. Minute attention is given to the figures, the hands and faces, clothing, jewelry, the camel, and its ornamentation. William Beattie was a versatile modeler and sculptor who exhibited at the RA, BI, and RSA. About 1850, he moved to the Potteries and worked for several of the factories designing models for parian production.
