England
Circa 1860
Worcester

Modeled by C Delpech, this bust depicts Apollo. It is one of the best known parian examples. Exhibited at the Art Union of London, this example is marked on the front of the socle base “ART UNION OF LONDON, 1861“. On the reverse the socle is marked “PUBLISHED FEBRUARY 1, 1861” and the bust is marked “C DELPECH/(REDT)” Most often a bust of Apollo was paired with a bust of Clytie. These were considered the epitome of classical beauty.
