French Empire Clock

France
Circa 1825

This beautiful French Empire clock retains its original ormolu finish that has survived in nearly perfect condition. The figure on the case depicts Urania, the muse of astronomy. Looking skyward, she holds calipers in her right hand while her elbow rests on a draped globe supported by three large books. A tiny star and crescent moon adorn her headband. The chapter ring encircles a large star and the central mount on the base is decorated with a band depicting the signs of the zodiac.
