A Suspended Sinumbra

England
Circa 1820
Attributed to Messenger & Son

A suspended sinumbra is a form rarely encountered except for period drawings and pattern books. In beautiful patinated and gilt lacquered finishes, this model is suspended by large foliate cast link and ring chains. The ornamentation includes an urn form font which in this case is decorative since each of the foliate cast undulating arms supports a sinumbra font, chimney, and shade.
