A Regency Two-Light Argand

England
Circa 1825
Attributed to Johnston Brookes and Company

This magnificent Regency two-light argand is offered in a distinctive patinated and gilt-lacquered finish. The beautiful font is designed in the shape of a classical urn. Its finial is cast as a flowering bud and a grapevine surrounds the body of the font. The feeder tubes appear as subtle scrolls and the hub between the tubes is decorated with female classical masks. The burner tubes connect to these tubes as scrolling classical foliage. Three gryphons support the lamp and rest on a complex base with three incurvate sides with the ends decorated with gilt-lacquered animal feet. The lamp rests on three flattened bun feet.
