A Regency Suspended Argand

England
Circa 1830

This rare three-light suspended argand is offered in a beautiful two-tone gilt-lacquered finish. The canopy has a cast foliate border around a fluted collar with its lower edge composed of a grape vine with leaves and grape clusters.  The font is in the shape of a tall amphoric-shaped urn topped with a grape vine. The body of the chandelier consists of a wide molded frame that supports a shaped, frosted, and cut glass dish with a large finial centering the glass. Brackets holding the chains to the body of the fixture are cast to appear as grape vines. The cutting design on the bowl is repeated on the shades covering the burners.
