A Regency Sinumbra

England
Circa 1825
Messenger & Son

Among collectors of Regency lighting, the figural sinumbra is one of the most desired models. This magnificent sinumbra lamp depicts Atlas holding up the heavens. The lamp is completed with a handsome frosted and cut shade with applied faceted rings to its top and neck. A foliated and ribbed air draft secures the font. The figure of Atlas stands upon an octagonal shaped plinth accented by classical masks, scrolled leaves, and rectangular panels. The entire lamp is presented in a beautiful two-tone gilt-lacquered finish. The inside of the plinth is impressed by the maker: MESSENGER & SON / BIRMINGHAM & LONDON.
