A Regency Sinumbra

England
Circa 1825

Occasionally, a collector will encounter one of these rare Regency sinumbras in the French taste. This beautiful example is distinguished by its French inspired dome-shaped hand painted shade with the gilt-lacquered stamped brass corona and wide stamped brass band around the font. The turned-up feeder tubes were also preferred in France. The reserves in the standard are decorated with grape vines and clusters of grapes. A sinumbra at The Metropolitan Museum of Art labeled by New York retailer J. & I. Cox has a similarly painted shade.
