A Regency Sinumbra

England
Circa 1825

With two snakes entwined about his hands and a full lion’s skin draped over his back, Hercules is utilized as a standard for this brilliant sinumbra. This reference speaks to the Regency period’s interest in the ancient world. In a beautiful two-tone gilt-lacquered finish, he stands on a pedestal adorned with grape vines, leaves, and clusters.
