A Pair of Two-Light Argands

London, England
Circa 1820
Johnston Brookes & Company

This splendid pair of Regency two-light argands is offered in a beautiful two-tone gilt-lacquered finish. Brass tags on the burner tubes identify the maker: JOHNSTON BROOKES / &Co / MANUFACTURER / LONDON. The fonts are contained within the rhytons that terminate with exquisitely cast boars’ heads. The mouths of the boars hold curved feeder tubes with cast foliate air vents and shade holders. Cylindrical standards are completely adorned with a repeating foliate pattern and square bases are raised on flattened bun feet. The rhyton form is rarely encountered in the larger two-light model.
