A Pair of Classical Window Benches

Boston, Massachusetts
Circa 1835

The sides of these striking window benches are canted to enable them to be placed in similarly designed Greek Revival window recesses. The window benches can also be used perfectly well on a flat wall without window recesses. The aprons of the bases are veneered in crotch mahogany veneers outlined with large flat moldings. The front feet are composed of a design which incorporates a c-scroll supported by another large scroll. Bold foliate carvings adorn the outside of the feet. The seat frame conforms to the shape of the base.
