A Pair of Classical Recamiers
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Circa 1825
Paper label of Charles H. White
Of mahogany, this spendid pair of nearly identical recamiers features beautifully carved scrolling ornaments indicative of the best cabinet work of the shops of early 19th century Philadelphia. The foliate-carved and molded crests rise above richly veneered and gadrooned seat rails with cornucopia, fruit, and foliate-carved arms over paw feet which have been carved with cornucopia, fruit, volutes, and feathers on brass casters. One recamier retains the period paper label of Charles H. White.
