A Pair of Classical Pier Tables
Boston, Massachusetts
Circa 1830
This fine pair of Classical Boston pier tables have beautiful mahogany veneers which greatly enhance their bold statement. Both retain their original Carrara marble tops which match the four large marble columns. Gilt-lacquered bronze capitals and bases accent the columns. The conforming aprons are veneered in crotch-mahogany veneers and accented with Grecian ovolo moldings at the tops and flat fillet moldings at the bottom of the aprons. The mirror plates are framed by wide pilasters faced with mahogany veneers which are edged with fillet moldings. The plinths are also finished with beautiful mahogany veneers and incurvate sides. The tables are supported by large compressed bun feet.
