A Pair of Classical Candelabra

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Circa 1840
Cornelius & Company

This magnificent pair of seven-light candelabra is ornamented with foliate elements. These have four-sided bases appointed with urns set on pedestals in niches supporting classical maidens raising cornucopias of light. The cast iron base weights are marked C&Co. for the firm Cornelius & Company. With the addition of a partner about 1840, the firm Cornelius and Son changed their name to Cornelius & Company under which they operated until 1851 at the death of the elder Cornelius.
