A Classical Work Table

Boston, Massachusetts
Circa 1825

This fine work table features rich crotch mahogany veneers and exceptional foliate carving. The top has hinged leaves with rounded corners resting above a case with two drawers centered by vertical veneered and carved supports on rectilinear plinths above foliate carved feet with brass casters. The finish has now been restored using hand mixed shellac in a manner appropriate for furniture of this period. The bag drawer has now been covered following the period chalk pattern in a sunburst design.
