A Classical Sofa
Boston, Massachusetts
Circa 1830
This lovely sofa design is inspired by the work of Regency designer Thomas King. Of note is the diminutive form and the fine crotch mahogany veneers. The shaped crest is ornamented with nicely carved foliate motifs. The feet are typical of Boston design most often associated with the Vose family cabinetmakers.
The upholstery has been restored using Thomas King’s Plate 10 as a pattern incorporating a burgundy wool and linen harateen and matching silk tufts.
