A Classical Sofa

Baltimore, Maryland
Circa 1820

This beautiful sofa of high quality and commodious proportion exhibits the finest characteristics associated with the Baltimore aesthetic. The back features corner ornaments with foliate motifs which center large pointed reeds. The crest gently rolls back with volutes spilling out into acanthus leaves. The arms begin with foliate-carved rosettes and flow into the seat rail with pointed reeds. The legs, carved with roundels and pointed reeds, terminate in extremely fine foliate cast toe-caps.
