A Classical Pier Table

Boston, Massachusetts
Circa 1825

This handsome Boston Classical pier table is topped by a Nero Portoro marble top. The conforming apron has beautiful crotch mahogany veneers. Framing the mirror plate are pilasters with book matched veneers. The uprights consist of graceful scrolls topped with large acanthus leaves. They end with boldly shaped animal paw feet. The entire table rests on a raised plinth which is inverted along the front. Fine mahogany veneers are framed by delicate flat moldings around the entire plinth.
