A Classical Pier Table

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Circa 1825

This beautiful pier table is offered with its original matching Carrara marble top, columns, and pilasters.  The columns are adorned with gilt-lacquered bronze capitals and bases. Those on the pilasters are bright and matte gilded wood. The apron has an ogee-shaped profile with raised panels in the center and the corners with freehand gilt decoration. On the plinth, an oval design is created by crotch mahogany veneers bordered by gilt decoration reflected in the mirror. A gilded molding frames the original mirror plate. The animal paw feet are topped with carved baskets of fruit and retain their original verde painted finish.
