A Classical Games Table

Boston, Massachusetts
Circa 1815
In the manner of Thomas Seymour, carving in the manner of Thomas Wightman

This handsome games table is constructed with a two-board solid mahogany top with a molded edge. The conforming apron is faced with crotch mahogany veneers and a beaded edge. The front and sides of the apron are framed with brass line inlays. The corners of the apron are executed with curved blocks with horizontal fluting. Four reeded support uprights taper as they rise to join the top. They attach to rectangular plinths joined by a beautifully carved and turned stretcher. The ends of the plinths are decorated with square stamped brass rosettes. Graceful reeded sabre legs end in fine brass toe caps and casters with gilt-lacquered finishes.
