Classical Cheval Glass
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Circa 1825
The large mirror of this cheval glass is suspended between a pair of posts composed of spiral carved turnings joined with a rectangular carved section. The posts are topped with stylized capitals and foliage. The handsome cornice pediment is faced with book matched mahogany veneers. While the knees are covered with leaf carving, the legs are sabre shaped and molded. Brass animal cast toe caps and casters in gilt lacquered finishes complete the piece.
