A Classical Center Table

Boston, Massachusetts
Circa 1835

This late Classical Boston center table almost seems modern in its severe design. The beautiful wood top is veneered with two large book-matched crotch mahogany flitches. Its conforming apron is edged with a flat fillet molding. The three-sided standard is pylon-shaped with canted corners. Large simple moldings transition the standard into a three-sided base with incurvate sides. The feet consist of double-stacked bun feet raised on concealed casters.
