A Classical Armchair

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Circa 1820

This substantial Classical armchair has a tall shaped back and a deep slip seat. The crest rail frames a crotch mahogany panel. The chair is upholstered in a striped horsehair fabric and is embellished with a brass nailhead trim. The out scrolling arms and saber legs raised on brass casters give the chair an elegant stance.
