A Classical Armchair
Boston, Massachusetts
Circa 1825
Attributed to Isaac Vose
This rare American Classical armchair was made in one of the premier cabinet shops in Boston. The crest rail is formed by a rectangular tablet with reeded moldings surrounding a crotch mahogany veneer. The back splat consists of a pair of shallow carvings on either side of a veneered tablet. Expressive scrolled arms are finished with fine moldings and a Scalamandre linen and wool harateen covers the seat frame.
