4-Lt Classical Candelabra

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Circa 1840
Marked C&Co for Cornelius & Company

This exceptional pair of candelabra in patinated and gilt-lacquered finishes exhibits the finest work of Philadelphia. Without the makers mark, perhaps the American origin would be mistaken. Each is topped with an elegant urn and four foliate ornamented candle arms supported by a tapering patinated column above a circular base adorned with four Classical torches and a foliate collar above a square plinth. According to Jones, the C&Co mark was used from about 1840-1851. This pair of candelabra are marked on the base weights.
